The idea behind the Rice Water for Hair trend is to use rice water instead of your usual conditioner: simply wash your hair and then leave the pre-made beauty concoction on your hair. Rice water should be rinsed off after 2-3 minutes. The result promises to be spectacular (as evidenced by the fact that the hashtag #RiceWater has over 350 million views on TikTok): hair will be stronger and shinier.
The secret of the ancient Chinese tradition lies in the fact that the water left over from boiling rice is rich in a wealth of nutrients (including aminobenzoic and ascorbic acids) that soothe and moisturise the skin. It is therefore beneficial not only for the hair, but also for the scalp.
The concoction is much easier to make than you think. Pour two tablespoons of rice into a 250 ml glass and pour boiling water over it. Let the liquid infuse for 15 minutes and then drain it into a separate bowl. Once the rice water has cooled to room temperature, it can be used immediately for a beauty treatment.
