How to make afro curls yourself: 5 ways to repeat the hot trend

  • Posted 2 aastat ago

Afro-curls are one of the most visible hairstyles this season. But the trend is far from new. Afro-style little curls are a hairstyle that came into vogue back in the 70s. Small curls-springs in the style of the main character of the movie “Curly Sue” create both feminine and rebellious image.

Many celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Zendaya, and Solange have already tried on small curls. They were joined by Instagram bloggers and influencers who also tried out the trend.

Afro-curls can be made to any length – they look great on hair of any texture and shade.

This styling is suitable for almost everyone because due to the volume, it corrects facial features. Fine curls can last for up to several days (for long-lasting results, use a sea salt texturizing spray). At the same time, it is not necessary to wear loose hair all the time– you can change the images, creating different variations of curly hairstyles.

Afro-style curls can be done in the salon using a special perm or on your own using a convenient technique. It is important to stock up on time and patience here. To recreate that very light and carefree effect, you need to divide your hair into small strands and carefully work each one.

1. Corkscrew curls

This is an easy option for short or medium lengths.

  1. Apply a leave-in cream or hair gel to damp hair.
  2. Divide the entire volume into small strands.
  3. Wind them around the pins with a figure eight. Try to place the studs as close to the roots as possible.
  4. After about two hours, you can gently pull the pins out to avoid damaging the curls.

2. Curlers

Another way to make tight curls is to use thin curlers.

  1. Wash and dry your hair.
  2. Apply volume foam to the comb and spread through the hair.
  3. Curl your hair in curls. It is best to do this overnight, but if there is not much time, leave it on for a couple of hours, and before removing, use a hairdryer to warm up your hair a little.

After you remove the curlers, do not comb, just sort the curls with your hands. In the end, the hairstyle can be fixed with hairspray.

3. Curling iron

In order to create small curls, there are special stylers. With their help, you can repeat the styling faster. The smaller the diameter of the heater, the finer the curls themselves will be (usually manufacturers produce such gadgets with a diameter of 10 mm).

The plan of action is about the same as when creating any other curls, but it is necessary to highlight thin strands– about one centimeter.

  1. First, you need to wash and dry your hair.
  2. Apply for thermal protection.
  3. Part your hair into zones. Starting from the bottom layers, curl strand by strand.

4. Pigtails

This method is suitable for girls with medium to long hair. To do this, you need to wash your hair, but do not wait until the hair is completely dry.

  1. Apply a styling product to slightly damp strands.
  2. Next, you should braid small pigtails from the very roots – the more there are, the better the result will be.
  3. Once the hair is dry, the braids can be loosened.
  4. It is better to sprinkle the finished hairstyle with hairspray.

5. Papillotes

These are small tows of fabric (or fabric curlers) that were used to create curls several centuries ago. Their plus is that, unlike curlers, they are practically not felt on the head, and it is more convenient to sleep with them.

  1. After washing, dry your hair to keep it slightly damp.
  2. Comb and divide into sections.
  3. Wind strand by strand onto the strips of fabric from the ends to the roots.
  4. To fix the papillotes, simply tie the ends of the fabric tightly.

Alternative– foil

We remember how the masters do it in a beauty salon when coloring the hair.

  1. Apply for thermal protection.
  2. Roll your hair into strips of foil in the same way as with fabric papillotes.
  3. Work each section with a flat iron to warm up your hair.
  4. Next, loosen the strands and fix the styling.
