Your skin’s cell regeneration process kicks in

After battling constant ultraviolet light, pollution from the environment, perspiration, and wind (even from a running fan), our skin desperately needs to rest. “In fact, at night, the skin’s repair work is carried out three times faster than during the day,” says Dr. Sam Honey, a dermatologist at London Premier Laser Clinics.

Skin becomes more receptive to treatments

This is why most anti-aging formulas are recommended to be applied at night. “You should use potent ingredients, such as retinol and glycolic acid, before going to bed, as these are better absorbed into the skin at night,” continues Sam Honey. Also, remember that such ingredients should not be applied to the face if you will have any contact with the sun during the day.

The body produces more collagen

If you sleep 8-9 hours a day, you can save a lot of money on collagen products. “When you fall asleep, the body starts producing growth hormones. They ensure that your skin produces enough collagen to help it stay firm, and also helps to get rid of acne and scars all over the body,” says Dr Honey.

Skin “relieves stress”

“Lack of sleep increases cortisol (stress hormone) levels, making the skin more sensitive. Sleep deprivation can provoke a dull complexion and puffiness under the eyes,” explains Sam Honey. At night, the skin literally rests from exposure to sunlight, blue light and other unpleasant environmental contacts.
